Aroma, flavor and appearance
- Spicy
- Citrus
- Sweet
- Skunk
- Earthy
AK-47 combines sweet citrus with warm spice and a pungent, earthy base. Skunky and tobacco-like notes give it a drier, more savory side, so the sweetness sits within a strong-smelling profile rather than dominating it. The contrast between bright citrus and deeper earth is its most useful sensory reference.
Flower appearance
The original Serious Seeds line develops compact, resinous flower clusters with relatively few leaves. Large calyxes—the small structures making up those clusters—contribute to its chunky appearance. Its mostly sativa classification does not translate into an expectation of loose, airy buds.

Genetics and history
AK-47 is a longstanding Serious Seeds cultivar, created by breeder Simon in 1992. The strain predates the company’s founding in 1995. Its mostly sativa classification, strong aroma and compact, resinous flower clusters are central to the original line’s identity.
Serious Seeds names Colombian, Mexican, Thai and Afghan stock in its ancestry but keeps the exact crossing history private. These are ancestral origins, rather than four confirmed direct parents. That distinction helps explain the familiar lineage description without making the family tree more precise than the breeder’s account.
About the related names
AK is a shortened name used in strain directories.

Growing AK-47
Published characteristics for the named versions below. Flowering time excludes the earlier growth period; seed-to-harvest estimates cover the full cycle.
Serious Seeds AK-47
- Flowering time
- 8–9 weeks indoors (breeder overview)
- Plant & flower structure
- Medium stature, vigorous branching and compact flower clusters
- Starting material
- Regular or feminized seeds
The original Serious Seeds AK-47 has a medium-sized frame, vigorous branching and compact flower clusters. The breeder’s overview gives 8–9 weeks of indoor flowering, making it a useful planning reference for that line rather than a complete seed-to-harvest timetable.
Serious Seeds’ original AK-47 and its Auto AK-47 are separate releases. The Auto carries its own release name, and the breeder has not disclosed its complete cross on the product page.
The AK-47 name also appears in other companies’ lines and descendants. For readers comparing plant descriptions, the breeder and full release name provide more useful context than “AK-47” alone. Characteristics attributed to the original Serious Seeds line should remain separate from those of an Auto or another breeder’s version.

What does AK-47 smell like?
Its breeder describes a strong spicy aroma with sweet citrus notes. Broader consumer descriptions also include earthy, skunky and tobacco-like qualities.
What effects are associated with AK-47?
Happy, talkative and hungry are prominent reported experiences. Dry mouth, dry eyes and dizziness are also reported. These descriptions do not establish a guaranteed response.
What are the parents of AK-47?
Serious Seeds identifies Colombian, Mexican, Thai and Afghan ancestral stock, but has not disclosed the exact pedigree. Those four names describe ancestry, not four confirmed immediate parents.
