Last Updated December 21st, 2022: Are you interested in trying cannabis but don’t want to smoke? No problem! It’s 2023, and there is a vast array of products and at-home solutions for you:
The 4 Healthiest Ways To Smoke Weed Include:
- Using A Vaporizer
- Consuming Edibles
- Using Tinctures
- Using Topicals
We’ll go into each of these methods in more detail below!

1. Vaporizing Flower
A portable or desktop vaporizer is one of the most effective ways to receive the benefits of cannabis without smoking. Does smoking make you cough? This is barely an issue when vaporizing. It’s the carcinogens and lung irritants caused by combustion when smoking that we are trying to avoid. During vaporization, cannabis is heated at a lower temperature to avoid combustion, but high enough to release the goodness of the cannabis compounds. I consume with a PAX 3 Vaporizer. I like that it’s discreet, lightweight, and kind of sexy. Many people, including myself, also find that they receive a more functional and pleasant high when vaporizing cannabis, compared to smoking.
2. Prefilled Electronic Vape Pen
A cannabis vape pen is similar to an e-cigarette. This is an extremely convenient and discreet way to consume cannabis. These vaporizers use a small battery-powered heating element to vaporize cannabis extract. Although public consumption restrictions apply in most places, there is very little odor. I find my vape pen to be an excellent way to get a pick-me-up in the afternoon or to relax and switch off in the evening.
3. Edibles
Not the brownies you used to know! Depending on the recipe, cannabis-infused food and drink is an effective and healthy way to consume cannabis. The cannabis compounds enter the bloodstream through the small intestine, instead of the lungs, so the effects are stronger and felt throughout the body. This is how edibles can provide pain relief for many people. Edibles complicate cannabis legalization, as it is very easy to over-consume, which can be an unpleasant experience. Be mindful and start out with a very small dose – just remember; start low and go slow. I often take a small piece of infused chocolate at bedtime to help me sleep through the night. Where edibles are not available, you can make your own cannabis butter.
4. Tinctures
To make the tincture, cannabis extract is infused into either alcohol or oil. Using a dropper, tinctures can be taken sublingually (under the tongue), for quick relief from headaches and muscle aches. I prefer to use an infused, oil-based tincture that is high in CBD. And if you don’t like the taste, tinctures can also be added to teas, drinks and other foods.
If you’re interested in making your own tinctures, take a look at purchasing a rosin press!
5. Topicals
These days, even my night cream has cannabis in it! I find that a THC and CBD-infused body cream helps to reduce inflammation and muscle soreness, which feels great after a workout. An infused topical won’t give you a head high, although your targeted area may feel rather fantastic and topically high! Please be sure to use as directed and check use-by dates where available. If in doubt of the age or storage history of a product, it’s probably better not to consume.
So there you have it; how to consume cannabis without smoking. Concentrates and extracts didn’t make my go-to list, mainly because of their higher potency, which may not be ideal for the first-time consumer – more about them, later.
